Improvisation AcceleratorRound 1 · January 2027

Stop running scales.
Start improvising over the changes.

You already know scales, chords, and licks. The challenge is turning them into music when the harmony moves. For eight Sundays, we'll work on real tunes together. You'll play, I'll listen, and you'll know what to work on before the next session.

Why you're stuck

Practicing isn't the problem.
The loop is.

You know triads, scales, pentatonics. Then the tune starts, and none of it comes out the way you hear it.

The loop that goes nowhere

A video, a book, a new lick. Weeks later, the same place.

What people say

This is the first Accelerator group.
The teaching behind it isn't new.

I've spent more than 20 years working with guitarists who already know plenty of theory, but want to make it part of their playing.

Jordan Rudess
Some people are great musicians and other people are great teachers, but you, my friend, have both skills and I really appreciate it.

How it works

A simple rhythm for eight weeks.

Every Sunday, we work on one musical idea together for 75 minutes.

After each session, you receive a practice card that tells you what to focus on.

Across the eight weeks, you also have two scheduled opportunities to play for me live and two private recording reviews, so I can hear your playing and give you specific next steps.

01 Sunday, live with me

75 minutes, with your guitar in your hands.

No lecture. One idea, straight into a real tune. Everyone plays along with mics off, and up to four players play for me live.

0:00The week's idea in one sentence. Count in the tune.
0:10I demo it. You play along. One line for each lane.

02 Your card, after every Sunday

You always know what to practice.

  • One idea for the whole week
  • Your lane's line, pitched at where you are
  • Record 60 seconds. Every card ends the same way, so you hear your own progress
  • The recording of every session, yours until August 28, 2027

The weekly 60-second recording is for your own ears. Two submitted clips get my private feedback, four with Extra Attention.

Comfortable from the first Sunday

Nobody hears you unless it's your turn.

Mics off, guitar on.

When we play along, everyone's mic is off. You play with the room, not for it.

Your turn is on the calendar.

Two turns, scheduled by name before Session 1, so you know exactly which Sundays. Two minutes of playing, one fix, then you play again.

Away on your turn? It moves.

A

Foundation

Connecting the fretboard, so the shapes you know start sounding like music over real changes.

Week 1: find the targets in one position, then on each string set.

B

Bebop and Standards

Keeping the language alive when the chords move, so the lines go somewhere.

Week 1: end every phrase on the 3rd, then on the 7th.

C

Modern and Pentatonics

Breaking out of the box you know, with sounds that still land on the harmony.

Week 1: the box already holds the targets. Land them on beat 1.

Is this the right room for you?

If you've spent years playing guitar, know some scales, triads, or pentatonics, but struggle to make your lines follow the changes, this is the work we're doing.

You don't need to be an advanced jazz guitarist or read standard notation.

You do need to make time to play between Sundays. I'll give you a focused practice assignment, not a pile of material to get through.

Live means Sunday, 12:00 New York.

That works well across the Americas, the UK and Europe. In Australia and East Asia it's Monday between 1:00 and 4:00 AM (4:00 AM in Sydney). Every session is recorded, but your two live turns happen in the session, so check the time works for you before you join.

Come to the first two Sundays. Then decide.

If the Accelerator isn't right for you, email me by 11:59 PM New York time on Sunday, January 17, 2027, the day of Session 2. I'll refund everything you've paid and cancel any remaining payments. No form, no questions. And if fewer than 8 seats are paid when enrollment closes, the round moves to a later date and I refund every payment in full.

Enrollment

Open now: ask for a seat below and I send your enrollment link myself. Card payment on this page opens shortly. Closes Sunday, January 3, at 11:59 PM New York time, or earlier once all 15 seats are taken.

The round runs with at least 8 players. If fewer than 8 seats are paid when enrollment closes, the round moves to a later date and I refund every payment in full. You'd hear from me by January 4.

Questions

Honest answers.

What level do I need?

You should already know some material: triads, scales, pentatonics, maybe some arpeggios. This is for turning that into improvisation, not for learning your first chords. You should also be able to practice between Sundays. Not sure? Tell me what you play in the form, and I'll tell you honestly.

I'm already a strong player. Will this be too basic?

The Sunday idea is shared, but your lane, your card and your live turns are pitched at where you are. The Bebop and Modern lanes go well past triads.

When are the sessions?

Sundays at 12:00 New York time (19:00 Israel, 17:00 London, 9:00 Los Angeles), 75 minutes each: January 10, 17, 24, 31 and February 7, 14, 21, 28, 2027. Week 0 is January 4 to 9. In Australia and East Asia that's Monday between 1:00 and 4:00 AM, so most players there would follow from the recordings; your two live turns happen in the session.

What if I miss a session?

Every session is recorded, so you watch it when it suits you. The private link comes by email with that week's card and stays available until August 28, 2027, six months after the last session. If it was one of your feedback turns, send me a 60-second clip within 48 hours and I'll cover it in the next open feedback spot, or, if no live spot is left (as after Session 8), with a voice note within 3 days.

What material do I get?

The excerpts, exercises and practice card I share each week. The Accelerator doesn't add course access. If you already own one of my courses, your assignments point to the lessons you have.

What is a private clip review?

Twice during the round, you send me a recording of yourself playing. I listen properly and, within 5 days, send back a personal voice note: what's working, the one or two things holding you back, and exactly what to practice next. It's recorded feedback on your actual playing, not a live lesson. Everyone gets two; Extra Attention adds two more, four in total.

Do I need to read music?

No. My workbook pages have TAB next to the notation, and on Sunday I show everything on the guitar.

What is Extra Attention?

An optional upgrade for up to 5 people: $500 more when you pay in full ($1,497 instead of $997), or 3 monthly payments of $529 instead of $349. You get two private 60-minute lessons with me on Zoom, two more private clip reviews (four in total with the two included: you send me a recording, and I reply with a personal voice note about what I'm hearing and what to practice next), and your practice adjusted from what I hear in them. It's focused extra time with me during the eight weeks, not ongoing private mentorship, and not unlimited messaging.

How is this different from mentorship?

Mentorship is private: I build the whole plan around your playing and we work one on one. The Accelerator is a small group: 8 shared live Sundays, your lane, a weekly card, two live turns and two private clip reviews. Extra Attention adds two private lessons inside those eight weeks. If you want ongoing live one-on-one lessons, that's mentorship.

Is there a payment plan?

Yes. $997 once, or 3 monthly payments of $349 ($1,047 in total). With Extra Attention, $1,497 once, or 3 monthly payments of $529 ($1,587 in total). Nothing is charged after the third payment. If you ask for a refund by 11:59 PM New York time on January 17, you get back everything you paid and the remaining payments are cancelled.

How do I join?

Ask for a seat here. I read every answer myself and send you the enrollment link within 48 hours. No call needed. If you're under 18, please involve a parent, and I'll include them in my reply.

What happens after the eight weeks?

Near the end of the round I'll open the next step, and Round 1 players hear about it first.

What if it isn't for me?

Full refund of the amount you paid if you ask by 11:59 PM New York time on Sunday, January 17, the day of Session 2. On the 3-payment plan, what you've paid is refunded and the remaining payments are cancelled. Email [email protected]. No form, no questions.

What if fewer than 8 people join?

The round runs with at least 8 players. If fewer than 8 seats are paid when enrollment closes on Sunday, January 3, at 11:59 PM New York time, the round moves to a later date and I refund every payment in full. You'd hear from me by January 4.
