Private mentorship with Daniel WeissBerklee-trained20+ years teaching

Ready to get unstuck on guitar?

If you'd like to work with me one-on-one, apply below. This is for guitarists who've hit a plateau: the same licks, the same boxes, and theory that never quite makes it onto the fretboard.

  • Private lesson every two weeks
  • Practice plan built for you
  • Video feedback between lessons
  • Full course library, for life

Six or twelve months, working directly with me. I read every application myself and reply within 48 hours, or by email. I run a very lean, stress-free business, so we'll just have a quick, casual chat on Zoom or WhatsApp to see if it's a good fit.

Course vs mentorship

What changes when we work together?

A course gives you material to work through. In mentorship, I hear how you're using it.

We work on your playing directly: the phrases that feel stuck, the chord changes you lose track of, and the ideas you understand but can't yet use freely.

You leave each lesson knowing what to practice next. Between lessons, your videos help me see what's improving and what needs another approach.

You don't need to be a professional musician. You do need to make room for regular practice and be ready to work on your playing consistently.

From my mentorship students

In their own words

That's probably the best email I've ever sent, by the way, because it's enabled me to actually learn, or begin to learn, all the stuff I've always wanted to learn and not been able to find anywhere to learn it.
John L. · UK · mentorship student
I played for ten years just songs after I stopped taking lessons, because I'm like, I'm not learning anything… But this year is a revolutionary one. Yeah, I have never felt this way on the guitar before.
Mike · mentorship student
There were a lot of really great players last week, which is just awesome. So it's not a matter of better or worse, but I was the only one who sounded like me.
Steve Y. · 67, gigging guitarist · mentorship student
I'm actually seeing how I'm connecting the fretboard. I didn't expect that I would. I was listening to somebody play a Hendrix/John Mayer chord progression and I was like, oh, I'm seeing all the triad shapes he was using!
Sanjay · California, USA · mentorship student
Before, I would look at a bebop solo and just see sheets of notes with no understanding of how they were connected. Now I can look at that and say, oh, this is based on this triad, it's the second inversion of this B flat triad. It doesn't seem so intimidating anymore.
John M. · USA · after 4 months of mentorship
Your method is ingenious compared to everything else out there. I've seen a lot on YouTube and a lot of courses. Nobody, even my guitar teacher, the jazz guy I went to for three years, just gives me scales. Well, what do you do with those scales? You're teaching me a language here.

"It is easy to stay motivated with a wise and kind mentor"

A message from Steve, a current mentorship student who gigs with his band. This is what the in-between looks like: you send your questions and your playing, and I send back what you need next, sometimes a workbook or a video made just for you.

Questions

Before you apply

What level do I need to be?

Most of my mentorship students have played for years and feel stuck at the same level. If you can play some chords and melodies and want to really understand what you're doing on the fretboard, you're in the right place. If I don't think it's the right fit for you yet, I'll tell you honestly.

How do the lessons work?

We meet privately on Zoom every two weeks, at a regular day and time we set together. Between lessons you send me videos of your playing and I give you feedback, so you always know what to practice next.

What style of guitar do you teach?

My system is rooted in jazz, fusion, and modern guitar, but the principles of fretboard freedom, improvisation, and musical expression apply to any style. I've mentored blues, rock, funk, and jazz players.

Do I need to own your courses first?

No. Mentorship is a complete, standalone program, and most students come in fresh. If you already own a course, great, we'll fold that work into your plan. Either way, the full course library is included.

What about time zones?

I teach students all over the world, from the US and Europe to Asia and Australia. We'll find a regular slot that works for you.

How long is the mentorship?

Twelve months, or six months if you'd like to start smaller. Real change on the guitar takes consistency, and that's what this is built for.

What's the investment?

Mentorship is a serious investment in your playing. I'll go through the options with you personally when we talk, and payment plans are available.

What if we're not a good fit?

Then I'll tell you, and point you to the best next step for your playing. No pressure either way.
