Daniel gave guitar lessons to Dream Theater's keyboardist. Here's what he said:

Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater
"Some people are great musicians and other people are great teachers, but you, my friend, have both skills and I really appreciate it."

There's a Point Where Doing This on Your Own Stops Working

Most guitarists get stuck for the exact same reason.

You've put in years. You know the scales. You can name the chords. You've watched enough YouTube to teach a course yourself. But when it's time to actually play, the same thing happens. The same licks. The same feeling of "I should be better than this by now."

That's not a knowledge problem. That's a feedback problem.

A great course gives you the system.
A mentor gives you the answer to "how am I actually doing?"

Both work. They solve different problems.

If you learn well on your own, with a clear curriculum and time to practice, my courses are built for exactly that. Thousands of guitarists have broken through with the courses alone, and I'm proud of that.

Mentorship is a different category. You play. I listen. I tell you what to fix, what to keep, and what to practice next, every two weeks, until you stop wondering and start sounding like you.

That's the gap a course can't close on its own, not because the course is incomplete, but because no recording reacts to you.

The Program

What You Get Inside

Private 1-on-1 Coaching Calls

Personal Video Analysis

Record yourself playing and send it to me. I reply with a detailed video breakdown of what to fix and how.

Is This Right for You?

This is for you if:

  • You keep recycling the same bag of licks and you know it
  • You know theory but can't connect it to what comes out of your fingers
  • You want to improvise freely over changes, not just run scale shapes
  • You're ready for real, structured guidance and accountability
  • You can show up consistently for focused practice each week

This is NOT for you if:

  • You're a complete beginner who hasn't learned basic chords yet
  • You want shortcuts instead of building real musicianship
  • You're not willing to show up consistently for your practice each week

What Mentorship Students Say

"Your method is ingenious compared to everything else out there. I've seen a lot on YouTube and a lot of courses. Nobody, even my guitar teacher, the jazz guy I went to for three years, just gives me scales. Well, what do you do with those scales? You're teaching me a language here. You're teaching me how to speak."

Steve Pomeranz testimonial about Daniel's mentorship program

"I'm actually seeing how I'm connecting the fretboard. I didn't expect that I would. I was listening to somebody play a Hendrix/John Mayer chord progression and I was like, oh, I'm seeing all the triad shapes he was using!"

Sanjay California, USA

After 2 weeks of mentorship

"Before, I would look at a bebop solo and just see sheets of notes with no understanding of how they were connected. Now I can look at that and say, oh, this is based on this triad, it's the second inversion of this B flat triad. It doesn't seem so intimidating anymore."

John USA

After 4 months of mentorship

"The mentorship program is amazing. Just the fact of being followed by someone who is very professional helps a lot to develop your skill and also to put the work in. It's great."

Reviews from members of the Improvisers Academy

Same players, same community, hear it directly from them.

"Moving between Daniel's courses and the Improvisers Academy implementations has been amazing, especially getting feedback on my playing from Daniel. This community is all about helping each other become better musicians."

John

"It has been a really great complement to Daniel's courses. We get to ask him questions, he reviews our submissions, and I can only recommend it to you."

Pierre Switzerland

"Daniel Weiss is not only the best teacher I've ever encountered, but his well-structured course, combined with the Improvisers Academy, has guided me to a level of comfort on the fretboard I once thought was out of reach."

J. McDougall

"After a very short time, I felt I was making huge progress."

Common Questions

What happens on the discovery call?
We talk for about 20 minutes. You tell me where you're stuck and what you want to play like a year from now. I'll tell you honestly whether I can help, and how I'd approach your specific situation. No pitch, no pressure. Even if it's not a fit, you'll leave with at least one thing useful for your practice.
How often do we have sessions?
Sessions are typically every two weeks, giving you time to practice and implement between calls. The exact schedule is personalized based on your needs and availability.
What level do I need to be?
This is best suited for intermediate to advanced players who know basic chords and scales but feel stuck. If you've been playing for a year or more and want to break through to the next level, you're likely a good fit.
Do I need to own your courses first?
No. Mentorship is a complete, standalone program, and most students come in fresh. If you already own a course, great, we'll fold that work into your roadmap. If not, you'll get whatever course materials we need along the way, included.
What style of guitar do you teach?
My system is rooted in jazz, fusion, and modern guitar, but the principles of fretboard freedom, improvisation, and musical expression apply to any style. I've mentored blues, rock, funk, and jazz players.
What if I've tried courses before and they didn't work?
Most of my mentorship students have tried courses, books, YouTube, and private teachers. Some of those clicked partially. Some didn't. That's not a flaw in the material, it's the nature of learning alone. The moment someone hears you play and says "this, not that," learning compresses. That's the layer mentorship adds, and it's why this isn't packaged as a course.
What if it's not the right fit for me?
That's exactly what the discovery call is for. We'll talk, I'll hear about your goals, and if I don't think I can help you, I'll tell you honestly. And if after our first session you feel this isn't right for you, you won't be locked into anything. I only want to work with students who feel confident about the process.
I'm not in your time zone. Can this still work?
Absolutely. I work with students across 30+ countries. We'll find a time that works for both of us, and the video analysis component is asynchronous, so you can send clips whenever you practice.
